Speaking of random things about me…
1. The CD player in my car broke a few years back and I got an iPod (which I can’t live without now, thanks Apple!). I haven’t really listened to the radio since then. And by “then” I mean, since Fred Toucher left morning radio. I loved Freddy T. I’m not trying to make and indie statement by not listening to my radio…I just think what I already have on my iPod is waaaaaaaaay better. haha
2. Speaking of music, I find new music mostly by seeing bands play live. I almost always try to get there in time to see the opening act. I love concerts, there are few things better, in my opinion, and I go to as many live shows as possible.
3. Speaking of concerts, my first concert was Whitney Houston. It was her first tour ever, so I think it was in 1986, maybe ’84. Aside from the date, I remember it really clearly. It was Whitney’s birthday! On that note: “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” is one of the greatest songs ever recorded.
4. Speaking of firsts, the first record, cassette and CD I ever owned were all Billy Ocean’s Suddenly. Billy Ocean ruuuuuuuules!!!
5. Speaking of things that rule, I love the Boston Red Sox! My parents (for some ungodly reason) are Yankees fans. I think it was my first real rebellious streak to become a Sox fan. haha Most of my friends are Yankees fans. Most of my friends are also stupid. (haha just kidding, I love you guys!)
6. Speaking of my friends, I still talk to almost all of my friends from high school regularly. They are the greatest people I know, and I feel fortunate every day that I met them so early in my life! For real.
7. Speaking of school, I was in band all though school. I played the clarinet. I’m not sure how great I can make the instrument sound now, but I can still play. I always (inadvertently) move my fingers to the imaginary keys whenever I am reading something with sheet music.
8. Speaking of music, my parents were way into Fox 97 (an old local oldies radio station) when I was growing up, so I know the words to pretty much every mainstream oldie…ever. It is a shock if I hear a song from the ’50s-’70s that I don’t know. It happens from time to time on Sirius, and it freaks me out. Mostly though, I think that most peeps from my generation just think it’s odd. haha
9. Speaking of odd, I have freakishly strong typo radar (unless I am doing the writing). I think that’s how I ended up editing copy for other people. If I skim something, the typos jump out at me immediately. I used to be a copy editor for a music magazine. I should have been getting paid high dollar for my services…the writers (for the most part) were terrible, and Monica and I would end up doing rewrites on everything we read. Eventually we both quit the magazine…at the same time!! That was about a year ago. Over time, I have turned into a bit of a grammar nazi.
10. Speaking of the English language, I cannot stand for things to be intentionally misspelled. For example, I will never get my car washed at a place called Klean Kars. Seriously people, what is appealing about the misspelling thing?!
11. Speaking of things that are lame, I am not a fan of the internet expression “lol.” I prefer to type “haha.” It drives the same point home, right? LOL is weird to me, although I have become a fan of lolerskates. Same thing goes with rofl. (is that what it is? Or is it rotfl?! Eh, whatevs.) Oh, but I do enjoy roflcopter. haha
12. Speaking of “the dingledongers” (teachers of newfangled internet expressions), Trent Reznor has “introduced” me to some of my favorite people. It sounds weird, but it’s true. haha That means that I always have awesome people to go to Nine Inch Nails shows with. The situation rules.
13. Speaking of NIN shows, I have been to a lot of them. (More than 25, less than 50. I’ll do the math later.) In fact, I saw NIN play 10 times in the last six months. Is that even possible? Yes, yes it is. If it’s within driving distance, sign me up! haha
14. Speaking of driving, I have a lead foot! I love to get to places as fast as possible. Because of this, I get pulled over while driving a lot. It is not awesome. It has, however, equipped me with an awesomely handy skill set of being able to talk my way out of tickets. I did, however, recently get saddled with a speeding ticket and I was pissed. I acknowledge that I had it coming.
15. Speaking of speeding, my favorite NASCAR driver is Dale Earnhardt Jr. I recognize that it is cliché. I never had a favorite driver until I met him and he was really rad. I met Tony Stewart pretty recently. He was cool too…but not as cool as junior. haha
16. Speaking of…um…oh hell, forget it. I have never had a pet of my own, unless you count a fish. My old roommate Jason had a cat that we called Rooney (his real name was Owen) and the cat had a theme song. The tune was to Beck’s “Where It’s At” and went something like “Rooney rat/he’s got two pointed ears and a triangle nose” in place of “Where it’s at/I’ve got two turntables and a microphone.” We were dorks…still are.
17. Speaking of those fish, I had bad luck with them. One time my brother’s fish ate my fish from the tail up. It was gross. Another time, my roommate Chris turned the heat off at our house over a weekend we were gone…and he froze our poor fish. :(
18. Speaking of Chris, I often refer to him as my “fake brother.” In all honesty, though, I’m much closer to him than I am to my real brother. Sad, but true.
19. Speaking of my brother, he got married recently. I was in the wedding. I’ve been in a buuuuuuuunch of weddings. What’s that expression again? Oh, forget it. I hate that expression! haha Oh, but I love the movie “27 Dresses.”
20. Speaking of movies, I have only walked out on one. It was “Tales from the Hood.” It was f-ing terrible. Do not see that movie. Really, you will never get that time back. Trust me.
21. Speaking of things that are f-ing terrible, I hate two people. That’s it. They’re people I know…well, have known, anyway. They are terrible bitches. There are plenty of people I’m not too keen on, but only two that I actually hate. That’s pretty good, for a lifetime of knowing people, I think.
22. Speaking of changing the subject, I have traveled to some pretty far away places to see my favorite bands perform. I’ve gone out of my way to see Nine Inch Nails, We Are Scientists, Circa Survive, the Bravery and Still Remains (a few others come to mind too, but those are my faves). The most distant location I traveled to see a show was Mexico City, Mexico to see Nine Inch Nails. It ruled!!!
23. Speaking of traveling, I have an unused passport. It sucks that it is unused! I have it “just in case.” haha Maybe I’ll win a big trip or something. It could happen!
24. Speaking of winning, I enter contests quite a bit. It’s my dad’s fault, he enters them as a hobby, so I’ve learned over the years that you have to enter to win! My first car was courtesy of a contest, as was the trip to Mexico City to see NIN I mentioned earlier. This week, I’m entering a contest to meet Conan O’Brien.
25. Speaking of Consey Wonsey, I think he’s the funniest person on the planet. hands down.
and scene.
xoxo
(bonus #26: I often end phone conversations by saying “and scene” as if we had just been acting and the scene was over. uh huh, I’m kind of a spaz.)
