Boombox Saint

I went to a really rad fundraiser this weekend for the JRD Foundation, which provides monetary support for melanoma research.  I’ve been a supporter of JRD for a few years now and have attended many of their events - but this was their best one yet!

I spent most of the night piddling away my fake dollars on the blackjack tables.  As it turns out, I found a way to be just as successful in loosing my ass with fake funds as I am with real deal dollars.  Oh well, it’s all for a good cause, right?

Dr. Jack Arbiser, a grantee of JRD, told us about how things are developing in the lab – and I was so impressed with his efforts!  His lab has now isolated the gene that causes melanoma to develop and has discovered that drugs already in existence, like Zoloft, can block the enzyme that causes the cancer to be aggressive.  It was amazing stuff, I swear.

I played for a bit on this old school slot machine which totally stole my (faux) money.  After staring at it in disbelief for a while, I realized that it was Gamera themed!

Do you know Gamera?!  No?  Well, he’s really neat, and happens to be full of turtle meat.  haha  That’s according to my old fave, MST3K, anyway.  You should familiarize yourself if you were out of that loop.  There’s only about a 49% chance you will regret it.
